This category is open to any company that can show excellence through new product or technology development for the ground engineering industry between January 2022 and January 2023. Entrants must demonstrate how the innovative new product or technology has delivered benefits in health and safety, in-use performance, sustainability or cost during on site delivery of a geotechnical project. Evidence to show how the product or technology can improve the performance or quality of service that the purchasing company offers to its clients is essential.

Fugro VBM 3000 - vertical boring machine

Fugro’s VBM™ 3000 is the first in a series of revolutionary subsea vertical boring machines, designed to maximise efficiency of drilling operations for projects supporting industries such as offshore renewables. The remote operation mitigates the impact of adverse weather and reduces cycle time per location, combining to directly reduce vessel cost when compared to traditional techniques. This saves us and our clients time, money and allows for more efficient project completion. In developing VBM™ 3000 Fugro has greatly improved operational health and safety by moving operators into a Remote Operation Centre away from areas of risk on the drill floor. VBM™ 3000 drills have all been designed and manufactured at Fugro’s in-house facility in Falmouth, Cornwall with operation and maintenance also performed by Fugro technicians. VBM™ 3000 offers surety of delivery through a fully integrated package backed by decades of operational and engineering knowledge.
